The importance of having an injury treated is often overlooked and the healing is usually prolonged, largely due to ignorance that it will get better on its own. Unfortunately this is rarely the case, as no matter how big or small the injury may be, the body generally needs help to regain full function.
A thorough posture and stability examination along with assessment to the site of injury is essential to injury management. Once the injury or problem is identified treatment can begin, with the use of massage, manual therapy (including deep frictioning and mobilisations), electrotherapy (such as ultrasound, interferential, G5), stretching and rehabilitation exercise.
As well as treating the site of injury, an important part of the treatment process is to determine the main cause of the problem, as there can often be an underlying reason for its development. Muscle imbalance, posture, biomechanics, muscle weakness, work ergonomics, driving positions, sports equipment and footwear can all play a part. All of these factors will be addressed through education and a personally prescribed rehabilitation programme.
